AND LIKE A GOOD SOLDIER, JOHN MCSAME IS THERE

This is raw politics folks, and after last night's blockbuster Democratic National Convention - where America was reminded why the party of FDR is the only option for "We The People" - the Republicans again proved why even in their death throes they remain dangerous and determined to subvert the will of the American people.

Sarah Palin and John McCain were both "selected" because even though Republican dirty tricksters are working furiously to deny (minority/poor/soldiers/Democrats) voters the chance to even cast a ballot through illegal voter caging, and blatantly rigging voting machines in some states; they know that in this election Republicans are doomed.

McSame the good soldier says in the backrooms, "Hey, I'll be one to fall on my sword for the party", and the pick of Ms. Palin by the Republican Party gives a nakedly disrespectful backhand to women voters on their way out the door while maintaining their Fundie base - so that in the next election cycle they can drag the crazies out of the basement that believe war in the Middle East is a good thing as it accelerates the "End Times", while pretending they actually care about "Family Values" to garner "Soccer Mom" votes.

This is hardball politics planning the next election cycle. After Obama's speech last night proved Democrats are willing to play smash mouth with the thugs on the right this time around, the Republicans threw in the towel and started planning for 2012.

As a bonus to the Republican hierarchy, NONE of the "Old Rich White Guy's Club" that constitutes the real power in the Republican Party are worried about facing Sarah Palin in 2012 - think about it.
Of course, they're counting on Americans hating the inevitable pain required from 2009 to 2012 to straighten out multiple, predictable, preventable Republican disasters. (Note to self, next diary on Republicans revising history to blame Democrats for their screw ups while taking credit for Democratic accomplishments).

Obama got it exactly right last night. Americans respect strength. Take it to them and don't let up - remind America every day that Republicans don't believe in the American Dream unless they personally profit, and they openly mock the Founding Principles and the Constitution with their Trickledown on America economic policies.

Even triangulating Bill Clinton straightened out 12 years of disastrous Reagan/Bush deficit spending, raising middle class and cutting upper class taxes schemes with progressive policies.

Progressive, liberal policies work for all Americans and Rich Republican Corporatism doesn't. Don't shut up about it.

WAPO REPORTS TAX CODE HURTS MOST AMERICANS

Our chart shows the combined effect of the Bush tax cuts. It leaves no doubt that the tax system has become less progressive, even as the need for progressivity has grown. Over the past quarter of a century, the tide of the American economy has failed to lift the bottom half of society, damaging the faith on which capitalism depends. Seven out of ten say the nation is headed in the wrong direction even though economic growth is galloping, and many are hostile to trade, immigration and big business. But rather than crafting a tax policy that responds to those sentiments, the administration has done the opposite.The chart makes a second point. The loss of tax progressivity has not occurred in the middle of society; it's not as though someone a quarter of the way down the income scale is doing better at the expense of someone three-quarters of the way down. Rather, it's the top tenth who have benefited, and the top within the top has done fabulously well. According to Thomas Piketty of the École Normale Supérieure in Paris and Emmanuel Saez of the University of California at Berkeley, the top 0.01 percent of households has seen its tax bite fall by 6 percentage points since 2000 and by an astonishing 25 percentage points since 1980. As men do not live by bread alone, they do not fight by armaments alone. Those who man our defenses and those behind them who build our defenses must have the stamina and the courage which come from unashakeable belief in the manner of life which they are defending. The mighty action that we are calling for cannot be based on a disregard of all the things worth fighting for. The nation takes great satisfaction and much strength from the things which have been done to make its people conscious of their individual stake in the preservation of democratic life in America. Those things have toughened the fiber of our people, have renewed their faith and strengthened their devotion to the institutions we make ready to protect. Many subjects connected with our social economy call for immediate improvement. As examples : We should bring more citizens under the coverage of old-age pensions and unemployment insurance. We should widen the opportunities for adequate medical care. We should plan a better system by which persons deserving or needing gainful employment may obtain it. I have called for personal sacrifice, and I am assured of the willingness of almost all Americans to respond to that call. A part of the sacrifice means the payment of more money in taxes. In my budget message I will recommend that a greater portion of this great defense program be paid for from taxation than we are paying for today. No person should try, or be allowed to get rich out of the program, and the principle of tax payments in accordance with ability to pay should be constantly before our eyes to guide our legislation. If the congress maintains these principles the voters, putting patriotism ahead pocketbooks, will give you their applause. In the future days which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms. The first is freedom of speech and expression --everywhere in the world. The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way-- everywhere in the world. The third is freedom from want, which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants --everywhere in the world. The fourth is freedom from fear, which, translated into world terms, means a world-wide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor --anywhere in the wold. That is no vision of a distant millennium. It is a definite basis for a kind of world attainable in our own time and generation. That kind of world is the very antithesis of the so-called "new order" of tyranny which the dictators seek to create with the crash of a bomb. To that new order we oppose the greater conception --the moral order. A good society is able to face schemes of world domination and foreign revolutions alike without fear. Since the beginning of our American history we have been engaged in change, in a perpetual, peaceful revolution, a revolution which goes on steadily, quietly, adjusting itself to changing conditions without the concentration camp or the quicklime in the ditch. The world order which we seek is the cooperation of free countries, working together in a friendly, civilized society. This nation has placed its destiny in the hands, heads and hearts of its millions of free men and women, and its faith in freedom under the guidance of God. Freedom means the supremacy of human rights everywhere. Our support goes to those who struggle to gain those rights and keep them. Our strength is our unity of purpose. To that high concept there can be no end save victory.
